‘Share inputs on drug peddlers, identity will be kept hidden’

Srinagar, May 03: In a powerful show of public resolve against the growing menace of drugs, nearly 30,000 people participated voluntarily in a massive anti-drug Padyatra in Srinagar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Padyatra, SSP Srinagar termed the overwhelming participation as a “defining moment” in the ongoing war against drugs. He emphasised that the campaign would not remain symbolic, but would soon transition into a sustained, “action-oriented programme”.

“30,000 people participated voluntarily in Padyatra. We will follow an action-oriented programme in the next three months and dismantle the drug ecosystem financially too,” the SSP said, underlining the police's intent to strike at the roots of the narcotics network in the coming days.

He made it clear that the fight against drugs cannot be confined to law enforcement agencies alone. “War against drugs is not just the police and civil administration's job but a collective effort of society and community participation too,” he said, urging citizens to play an active role in identifying and isolating drug networks.

Reaching out directly to the public, the SSP appealed for “actionable intelligence.” “We urge the people to come forward and share inputs about drug peddlers, and we promise them their identity will be kept hidden,” he said. The SSP issued a stern warning to those involved in drug trafficking. “We also ask drug peddlers to shun peddling or face strict action as per the law,” he said, indicating a zero-tolerance approach going forward.

On the arrangements for the high-profile event, SSP Chakravarthy said that Srinagar Police had ensured meticulous planning and security. “On the Padyatra, the Srinagar police had made comprehensive security arrangements for the smooth Yatra of LG Manoj Sinha,” he said.

The Padyatra, led by LG Sinha, witnessed participation from students, civil society members, officials, and common citizens, reflecting a rare unity of purpose.
