Srinagar, Jan 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday apprehended three terrorist associates, including the son of a former terrorist, for tossing a grenade at the Territorial Army camp in Hamray Pattan on January 7, officials said.
Addressing a press conference at SDPO’s office in Pattan, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Feroz Yehya said that they have arrested a group of three terrorist associates involved in tossing a grenade at the 163 TA Camp, which caused significant damage to the MI Room structure.
He was flanked by SDPO, Pattan, Shahjan Ahmad and other police officials from Baramulla.
“Following the attack, Police Post Palhallan received information about the grenade hurling at 7:15 PM at the 163 TA premises in Hamray on Jan 07, where the MI Room structure was partially damaged. Thankfully, there was no loss of life,” he said.
The ASP further said that based on the evidence collected from the scene and after conducting a throw analysis, security forces, along with the Police, initiated an investigation and registered a case under FIR/1/2025 109BNS/16-23 section of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
“Afterward, multiple teams were formed, and we cracked the case in 24 hours. Three individuals were arrested, and live ammunition, including one hand grenade, an AK-series rifle, a pistol, and 21 pistol rounds, were recovered from their possession,” he said.
ASP Yehya highlighted that the swift police action following the attack led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
“The arrested persons included a surrendered terrorist, the son of another surrendered terrorist, and a third person who was the mastermind behind the attack. This mastermind had been evading arrest for two years and is also involved in a narco-terrorism case,” he said.
ASP Baramulla Yehya said that through diligent investigation, we were able to connect the dots and apprehend those responsible. The case was solved within 24 hours, thanks to the efforts of our multiple teams,” he said.
“We are currently investigating potential links between the attack and other criminal activities in the area. The activation of released surrendered terrorists has created a trust deficit between the police and their families,” the ASP said.
He said that Baramulla Police warns those families of surrendered families not to indulge in anti-national activities. Anyone violating these terms will be booked under the law of the land,” he said.
ASP further said that they are committed for peace and progress in Baramulla and thankful to Sopore, Bandipora Police teams, 52 RR for helping to crack this case in swift manner.
