Baramulla, May 07: Police have arrested a wanted drug smuggler and seized 45 grams of a contraband substance resembling Brown Sugar during a naka checking at Boniyar Market in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Abdul Qayoom Ganie, son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie and resident of Trikanjan Boniyar, was apprehended by the police while he was trying to flee from the spot upon seeing the naka party.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Shokat Ali-JKPS, SDPO Uri and assisted by DySP Prob Kubra Nazir, SHO Police Station Boniyar.
The recovery of the contraband substance, which was found in Abdul Qayoom’s possession during his personal search, led to the immediate arrest of the smuggler.
A police official said that a case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Boniyar police station and investigations are underway.
Meanwhile in another operation, two drug smugglers were arrested by the police during a naka checking operation at Chinar Crossing Pattan.
The smugglers were identified as Shabir Ahmad Sheikh and Ashiq Ahmad Khanday, both residents of Bazar Mohalla Pattan.
During a personal search of the suspects, 210 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus and 7 Syrups of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from them.
The police immediately took the suspects into custody and registered a case under the NDPS Act at Police Station Pattan.
