Shopian, Dec 28 : Three Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs) in Shopian district have been suspended for failing to report to duty during the ongoing snow clearance operations.
The suspension order, issued by the District Development Commissioner (DDC) of Shopian on December 28, 2024, highlights the critical nature of the situation as the entire administrative machinery of the district is focused on clearing snow and providing relief to citizens.
The engineers, identified as Mohd. Noordin (AEE, SD Imamsahib, R&B Division Zainpora), Zaffar Ahmed (AEE, SD Ramnagri, R&B Division Shopian), and Mohd. Saleem (AEE, SD Hirpora, R&B Division Shopian), were found to have abandoned their respective posts.
Their locations were found to be outside the district, with Noordin in Chadoora, Ahmed in Janglatmandi, Anantnag, and Saleem in Srinagar.
The DDC termed their actions as “unbecoming of public servants” and “dereliction of duty” during a time of emergency.
Pending a full inquiry into their conduct, the AEEs have been attached to the district’s 24×7 Control Room. Their salaries have also been withheld, with instructions to the Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) to ensure compliance.
The Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian has been directed to enforce the attendance of the suspended engineers through the Police Control Room (PCR).
The Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian has been tasked with conducting the inquiry and submitting a report by January 1, 2025.
