Bandipora, March 13: Police on Monday arrested three drug peddlers including two women in two separate incidents in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and recovered cash and contraband substances from their possession.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora Lakshay Vinod Sharma said that three drug peddlers including two women, who are repeated offenders, were arrested with cash and contraband substances.
In one incident, police recovered a charas-like substance packed in sachets along with a cash seizure of Rs 6,980 from a mother-son duo Posha Begum and Aqib Waza whose father Khurshid Waza (Mandela) is already booked under PIT-NDPS Act, the SSP said.
He said in another incident, they arrested a lady Bubli Begum, a repeated offender and presently out on bail in an earlier NDPS case, and recovered a charas-like substance along with a cash seizure of Rs 71,845 from her.
All of them are habitual offenders and out on bail, SSP Bandipora said, adding cognizance has been taken under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
The SSP said narcotics is a problem which a society is collectively facing and the answer lies collectively within society. “The community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with strictly under the law,” he said.
