Kulgam, Sep 12: Four persons, which included two siblings, were killed in a tragic road accident on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when a vehicle, bearing registration number JK03J 0312, was hit by a boulder at Wagan area near Sher Bibi in Banihal.
The locals in the area revealed that they received a call about a truck plunging into a gorge near Sher Bibi due to a shooting stone after which they rushed to the spot immediately.
“As we arrived, the civil administration, police, QRT Ramsoo, and NHO Banihal volunteers were already on the scene. We recovered four bodies on the spot and rushed them to SDH Banihal,” a local said.
He said that the   truck was travelling from Jammu towards Srinagar.
The victims have been identified as M. Afzal Garoo (42), a driver, and his brother M. Altaf Garoo (36), sons of Aziz Garoo, residents of Redwani; Irfan Ahmed (33) and Showkat Ahmed (29), sons of Ab Hamid Bhat, residents of Trail, Srigufwara, Anantnag.
When the bodies of the two siblings reached their home,  a pall of gloom descended in the entire area in Redwani and Trail Srigufwara.
According to locals in Redwani, Kulgam, the siblings have left behind a daughter each and an elderly father.
“Their father remains mostly unwell, the authorities should assist them with whatever support possible,” they said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people participated in the funeral prayers of the siblings at Redwani, while the area is mourning the loss of the duo.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Ramban, through the official Twitter handle, expressed his condolences to the families for their irreparable loss.
“ Our deepest condolences to the bereaved families on their irreparable loss. RIP.”
