Baramulla, Jan 22: The Baramulla police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and seized a large quantity of contraband substances in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police official said that a team under the supervision of the station house officer of Pattan police station and assisted by the in-charge of the Palhallan police post intercepted a suspicious person and recovered 104 grams of Charas and 1.8 kilograms of Charas powder-like substance from his possession.
The drug peddler, identified as Bakhtiyar Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Buchoo Palhallan, was arrested and remains in custody.
In a separate incident, a police team under the supervision of the station house officer of Uri police station during a checkpoint at Mohura Uri intercepted a suspicious person and recovered 104 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
Identified as Raja Tanvir, a resident of Mohura Uri, he was also arrested and remains in custody.
Cases have been registered under relevant sections of the law in both incidents and investigations are ongoing.
Police have urged community members to come forward with any information about drug peddlers in their neighborhoods.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of the drug menace,” police said in a statement.
