Kulgam, Apr 19: Two labourers died while two others were injured after they suffocated in a septic tank in Checkpora village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday afternoon.

An official said that immediately after the incident occurred, teams from the revenue department, including the Tehsildar Kulgam, police, and SDRF, rushed to the spot and, along with locals, made efforts to rescue the laborers.

He said that two of them unfortunately died in the incident, while two others are in the hospital and in stable condition.

“The two who died have been identified as Mohd Maqbool Dar (60), son of Gh Mohd Dar, a resident of Checkpora, and another as Aziz Ul Rehman, a resident of West Bengal,” a health official confirmed.

He added that the duo were brought dead to the district hospital (DH), Kulgam.

He further said that the other two injured have been identified as Khursheed Ahmad Dar (40), son of Mohd Yousuf Dar, a resident of Checkpora, and Ajmal.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, visited the spot and the hospital to review the health condition of the injured.

DC Kulgam said that labourers were constructing a septic tank in an individual’s home and that the duo were trapped in it. He also said that a third person was also trapped in it, which was approximately 20 feet deep.

“The SDRF, police, and revenue teams were rushed, and all three were taken out and brought to the hospital,” he added.
