Pulwama, Aug 31: The 19th Badminton Championship came to a thrilling close in the serene town of Pampore, nestled in the heart of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The culmination was marked by a splendid award distribution ceremony that brought together participants, supporters, and dignitaries in a display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Players who showcased exceptional prowess on the court in various categories received their well-deserved prizes from esteemed guests who graced the occasion. The event was graced by several dignitaries, adding a touch of grandeur to the festive atmosphere.
Mohammad Irfan Shah, the Vice Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association, spoke about the proud legacy of the competition. “For the past two decades, we have been organizing this prestigious championship,” he said.
A remarkable gathering of around 500 students and players from Tral, Kakapora, Pampore, and Pulwama actively participated, demonstrating their commitment to the sport. The competition showcased various categories, including under 13, 15, 17, 19, senior, and mixed.
This diversity not only highlights the inclusivity of the championship but also serves as a platform to nurture and spotlight emerging talents. “Our primary objective in organizing this championship is to identify and foster talented players who can represent our state and nation on larger stages,” Shah stated with enthusiasm.
Adnan Shah, the patron of the championship, noted the diverse participation from schools like Birla Open Minds International School, Skylight, DGC Pampore, GDC Pulwama, and Al Academy. Their presence adds an educational dimension to the tournament, emphasizing the holistic development of young athletes.Beyond the realm of sports, these competitions contribute significantly to society. Adnan Shah emphasized how such events play a pivotal role in molding young talent and diverting them from negative influences. “We believe that promoting events like these aids in steering our youth away from social ills, particularly the menace of drug abuse,” he explained.
