Qazigund, July 22: A gastroenteritis outbreak in Kewa Qazigund, located in the Kulgam district has affected 15 people with two of them admitted to the hospital.
A health official told Rising Kashmir that 15 individuals in Kewa village, just two kilometer from Qazigund town, have been affected by the outbreak. The health teams have visited the area, and the affected individuals are reportedly doing well.
“Two of them were admitted to the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Qazigund and were discharged on Monday evening,” he said.
He added that the local health center reported cases of gastroenteritis on July 17, and by Monday, the total number of cases had reached 15. These were managed by the local Ayushman Arogya Mandir Sub Center (AAM SC), with only two admissions at PHC Qazigund, both of whom were later discharged.
Health experts have advised people to use boiled water for drinking purposes and to dispose of sanitary waste properly. Residents of the affected village were also urged to keep their surroundings neat and clean.
Rafiq Ahmad, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Jal Shakti (Qazigund), said that there are two water supply schemes—Malikabad-Badwani and Kewa-Malikabad—that provide water fit for human consumption.
