Srinagar, Sep 19: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar marked the commencement of a 15-day-long Hindi Pakhwada celebration on Tuesday. The event is being organized by the ‘Rajbhasha Cell,’ featuring a series of activities scheduled until September 29th.
The inaugural day witnessed a workshop for non-teaching staff, presided over by Prakash Chandra Mishra, Hindi Officer at MNNIT Allahabad, who served as the main resource person for the event. During his address, he delivered his address on ‘various forms of correspondence and the use of simplified Hindi in official communication.’
The workshop drew participation from Departmental Coordinators Rajbhasha Cell and registered Prabodh employees. NIT Srinagar’s Hindi Officer, R.P. Shukla, and Dr. Nasir F Butt, were the event coordinators.
Dr.Brajesh Kumar, Dr. Zubair Ansari and Dr. Sabzar were also present on the occasion.
In his address, PC Mishra highlighted the plight of numerous endangered languages worldwide, with many native speakers hesitant to preserve them.
He cited the example of Australia, where once, over 600 local and regional languages were once spoken. However, due to the influence of modern languages, only a few dozen languages have survived.
“To promote and safeguard Rajbhasha, we must adapt and incorporate words from other languages, including Indo-Arabian scripts,” he said.
P.C. Mishra stressed the importance of making Hindi more accessible, particularly in non-Hindi-speaking regions. “We should embrace words from Urdu, Sanskrit, English, and other languages to enhance its comprehension,” he said.
“Hindi should not suffer the fate of Sanskrit, which became incomprehensible to the majority. Hindi’s strength lies in its adaptability, as it readily assimilates words from various languages, making it easily understandable,” the resource person added.
P.C. Misra also proposed that, if necessary, English words could be transliterated into the Devanagari script to bridge communication gaps.
Earlier the inaugural address of the event was delivered by Hindi Officer, R.P. Shukla.  He introduced the guest and stated that various activities are lined up till 29th September.
Dr. Shukla also expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhakar Yedla for supporting such initiatives on the campus.
He said over the past several years, a lot of work has been done to promote Rajbhasha on campus. We will work more dedicatedly towards the implementation of Rajbhasha on campus.
Dr. Nasir F Butt delivered a vote of thanks to the resource person and expressed gratitude to Hindi Officer, participants, coordinators, and partners who contributed to the success of the event.
On the second day, Essay Writing Competition in which over 50 students participated. Dr. M.Z. Ansari and Dr. Jitendra Gurjar were the Coordinators of the competition.
On Wednesday, Dr. Amandeep and Dr. Prvan Kumar Katiya will be coordinators of the Debate and Extempore Speech Competition.
Dr. Parvan Kumar Katiyar and Dr. Nasir F Butt will be the coordinators of Administrative Vocabulary and Grammar. Dr. Ved Prakash Sharma and Dr. Ravi Kumar will be coordinators of the ‘Noting and Drafting’ Competition.
