At least 13 residential houses were damaged due to a landslide in a remote hilly village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, officials said on Sunday.

The affected families were shifted to safer locations.

Sub Divisional Magistrate Gool wrote a letter to Deputy Commissioner Ramban in which he submitted a report regarding landslide at Duksar Dalwa Sangaldhan.

‘ On 17/02/2023, it was reported that landslide is taking place at the above cited location in which two houses have been completely damaged and other adjoining households are under a threat of damage. Immediately, a team headed by NT Sangaldhan visited the spot and shifted the inhabitants of the damaged households to safer places, it said.

The letter says that On 18/02/2023, the sliding continued and brought into its ambit two more houses posing a risk to other nearby houses.

“Four Tents were managed from the Red Cross and these four families were instantly shifted to tents at safer places”, he said.

SDM Gool said that on Sunday when the undersigned visited the ana for assessment of the losses and damages, nine more families came completely under the threat and their houses rendered uninhabitable.

” So nine more tents were collected from the Red Cross and provided to the families for shifting at a safer place. A school building has also been provided for the safe keeping of the valuables of these families,” he said.

” In addition to the tents utensils and blankets were provided to the affected families. The Tehsildar has been directed to prepare cases for their damaged houses under SDRF,” he said.

“The sliding of this about one sq km area brought certain public assets under its threat. The Gref road connecting Sangalidhan with Gool is also damaged and is not safe for movement of vehicles. However an alternate route for reaching Gool has been made available vin Dharam-Salbule,” he said.

Similarly, damages to the 33KV line are imminent and may happen at any time, The same is the case with a PHE Pipeline through the area”, he said.

As per DC, the reason behind the sliding of the area needs to be ascertained by an expert team of Geologists so that precautions can be taken prior to any unseen mishappening in order to prevent any loss of life which is the first priority for us now.
