Anantnag, March 23: Authorities on Thursday fined Food Business Operators (FBOs) during market checking in the Mirbazar area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The FBOs were penalized under the relevant sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) 2006.
According to an official, the Food Safety Department Anantnag along with Mirbazar police conducted a drive to check overpricing and profiteering of essentials during the holy month of Ramadan.
During the market inspections, rotten vegetables and fruits worth thousands of rupees were destroyed, the official said, adding that 12 FBOs were penalised under Section 69 of the FSSA 2006.
“A fine of Rs 11,500 was also collected from erring shopkeepers, and we directed them to obey the law or face further action,” he said.
The officers also interacted with shopkeepers and directed them to display the rate lists and keep their respective businesses neat and clean. They also asked them to sell the commodities at fixed prices.
