Ramban, Oct 08: District Administration Ramban has so far transported around 10,000 livestock belonging to 75 Migratory Tribal Families from Banihal through National Highway-44 in Ramban District.
This follows the Government’s decision to transport the Deras in view of the heavy traffic movement on National Highway-44, especially the challenging stretch between the twin tunnels of Banihal and Nashri falling in Ramban District.
Even after transporting livestock in thousands, there is a large fleet of livestock and migratory families which are to be shifted in trucks and other vehicles toward Nashri.
“JKRTC has provided 12 trucks and pursuant upon the orders issued by the Tribal Affairs Department, another 12 light motor vehicles and 2 trucks have been engaged to shift the migratory families,” Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam, said here today.
The Deputy Commissioner added that many tribal families are using highland passes to cross over into Ramban and the District Administration is making all out efforts to transport as many tribal families and livestock as possible. ” With SDM Banihal as the Nodal Officer, ARTO Ramban, Manager RTC and the staff of Sheep Husbandry Department are making all out efforts to facilitate the transportation of the livestock towards Nashri, which is 66 km from Banihal town,” the DC added.
The vehicles provided by JKRTC and those engaged by District Administration have so far made 175 ferries to shift Deras in the district. Initially, only 02 vehicles were provided, and keeping in view the heavy rush of livestock JKRTC provided 10 more trucks, while the District Administration also pressed additional vehicles into service.
