10 tourists rescued from snowbound higher reaches of B-Top Jawahar Tunnel

Qazigund, May 08:A group of eight tourists and two drivers were rescued from the snow-covered old tunnel road in the Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.
The travellers were stranded in the B-Top region of the old tunnel in Qazigund, approximately 20 kms away from Jawahar Tunnel, before being rescued in a joint effort by local authorities.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Dooru Ghulam Rasool said that all the tourists were safely rescued.
“All of the tourists were safely rescued by the Qazigund Police, Beacon personnel, and Civil Administration. The police team, specifically Station House Officer (SHO) Qazigund, reached out to them and rescued them,” he added.
Officials said that the tourists were from Delhi and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and were planning to leave Kashmir after spending some time here.
A police official said that on a specific information through a distress call was received at Dial-112, by Kulgam police regarding the tourists stuck in heavy snowfall at an unknown location while traveling in their vehicle bearing registration number HR55AN-9507 in the jurisdiction of district Kulgam.
“A police party headed by SDPO Qazigund Govind Rattan-JKPS, SHO Qazigund, In-charge Police Post JT along with civil administration Kulgam and BEACON under the close supervision of SP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal-IPS was constituted,” he said.
Adding, “By using all available means and with the help of technical assistance their location was traced out by the joint rescue team and promptly the said team rushed to the spot and rescued all the 10 persons stuck in heavy snowfall at higher reaches of B-top Jawahar Tunnel.”
He said that they were provided necessary assistance and help and were shifted to safe accommodation from where they started their further journey towards Jammu smoothly.
“The tourists expressed their gratitude towards the police for their timely help and necessary assistance, the ” a police official said.
