Srinagar, Mar 04: The 13th Prof. Yousuf Memorial Inter-college Cricket Tournament kick-started today at the Islamia College cricket grounds with the Principal Prof. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir and Physical Director Dr Altaf ur Rehman declaring the championship open. In the inaugural match, the host college took on GDC Pattan on Thursday.

In the match, GDC Pattan decided to bowl after winning the toss. Islamia College set a challenging target of 221 runs for Pattan, with brilliant contributions of 79 runs by Islamia College Captain Muneeb Munaf and 41 runs by Kafeel. For Pattan, Zahid Hussain took two wickets.

Chasing the target, GDC Pattan started well with an opening partnership of quick fire 62 runs, but lost their way when wickets started tumbling and the whole team was bundled out for 131 runs. For Pattan, Danish with 22 and Zahid with 20 runs were the top scorers. Zahid took three and Muneeb two wickets for Islamia College. The hosts won the match by 89 runs. Muneeb Munaf was adjudged the man of the match.

S.P College will play against GDC Magam in the second match of the tournament on Friday. The tournament is being organised by the Department of Physical Education, Islamia College in memory of late Prof Mohammed Yousuf, ex-Principal of the college, and is witnessing participation from all the major colleges of the valley.
