Yatri killed, MRT members injured in Sangam Top tragedy

Anantnag, July 16: In a devastating incident, a 53-year-old woman pilgrim, identified as Urmilaben, daughter of Laxmi Narayan, lost her life after being struck by a shooting stone at Sangam Top while en route to the revered Amarnath cave shrine. 
Two members of the Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) from the Jammu & Kashmir Police sustained serious injuries during the rescue operation.
The injured MRT members, identified as Mohammed Salem and Mohammed Yaseen, had bravely embarked on the rescue mission to aid the stranded Yatri. Unfortunately, they too were harmed by the shooting stone.
The incident of shooting stones occurred between Sangam Top and Lower Cave, posing a significant danger to the Yatris undertaking the pilgrimage.
Urmilaben succumbed to her injuries, despite the rescue efforts made by the MRT members. Prompt action was taken to evacuate the injured police personnel, with the army and private helicopters on Yatra duty efficiently carrying out the operation.
Expressing his condolences, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, mourned the untimely demise of the lady Yatri and extended his sympathies to her bereaved family. The DGP also commended the dedication displayed by the two policemen and expressed his gratitude to all those involved in the swift evacuation. He further conveyed his wishes for the early recovery of the injured jawans.
