Diabetes mellitus during pregnancy or gestational diabetes is glucose intolerance detected during pregnancy. All pregnant women should be screened for Glucose intolerance during second trimester of pregnancy with a test known as Glucose tolerance test. Pregnant women with strong family history of diabetes, obese women, with multiple gestation (like twin pregnancy) are at higher risk of developing Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).  Gestational diabetes if not detected in time can lead to large babies. Women can experience other complications also like polyhydrominios with the increase in amniotic fluid and congenital defects in fetus. This makes screening for GDM necessary for pregnant woman
