Women’s college MA Road celebrates international mother language day

Srinagar, Feb 22: The department of Kashmiri, Government College For Women, MA Road on Tuesday celebrated international mother language day, here with the NSS wing of the college.
In this connection, a program was organised during which various speakers highlighted the role of mother tongue.
Head, department of Kashmiri, Dr Nusrat Iqbal said, a nation cannot exist without a mother tongue.
“Mother tongue is an essential aspect in one's upbringing as it shapes the way they perceive the world and the way one expresses themselves to others.”
Principal of the college, prof. Dr Ruhi jan kanth said it is our duty to understand the importance of mother tongue and also make the new generation understand about its importance.
“Mother tongue is an evidence of every living nation and everyone should have keen relations with one's mother tongue to give vent to one's feelings and emotions.”
She said that the mother tongue starts shaping thoughts and emotions. “We should teach our children about the rich art culture and civilization to which we belong.”
Speaking on the occasion, noted Kashmiri writer prof. Basher Bashir highlighted the rich past of kashmiri people and kashmiri language.
Dr Masood Ahmad Malik, head, Department of functional English said in his presidential address that we all need to take steps for promoting and preserving our mother tongue.
The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Shabeer Ahmad paray, Assistant professor department of political science.
