 My Dear Papa,

Sorry, I couldn’t attend your felicitation on your last day at work. As you know I am more than 12,000 Km away from home. But my best wishes and prayers are always with you.

The best things in life come to those who always give their best for others. Dear Papa, you have served your work, your organization all these years with great devotion, courage, and hard work. The world would be so much better if there would be more people like you in this world.

Honest, Sincere, Hard Working, Punctual, Loving and most importantly, Happy. These are the qualities I recall when I think about you. And it’s not just me, I’m sure anyone who knows you either professionally or personally, would feel the same way.Today, on your last day at work after near about 4 decades of service, I would like to congratulate you on your success, not just as a Govt, Employee, but also as a father, a friend, and a good human being overall.Growing up, watching you has always inspired me in a multitude of ways, and whichever few good qualities I possess, I inherited them directly from you.

You taught me that a job can be more than just a source of income, that if done with purpose and intent, it can be a source of pride and meaning in our lives. By never backing down on taking up tough assignments at remote locations, you taught me that change is not something to be feared, but to be embraced, as a routine part of life.

I can recall hundreds of instances where, despite the opportunity to do so, you never took leave from work unless it was an absolute necessity. The deserved trust and respect you receive from peers and family members alike, taught me the importance of honesty and integrity.By always being there for me, be it career advice or a personal counsel, you showed me by example, that a good father always provides time, attention and love to his children, no matter how busy he is, professionally. I learned that we can be happy by leading a simple life and wanting less, not necessarily by having more.

Thank you for all the life lessons, thank you for being you, and wish you a happy retirement!!!

I also wish you luck in any future endeavors you might embark upon. I know you won’t let retirement stop you from doing meaningful work and making a difference.

Stay happy, stay healthy, stay young Papa. We are with you always!

Love…

Your loving Son
