War against narco terror on: Contraband worth lakhs seized

25 lakh cash recovered, 4 peddlers held Pak pushing drugs in JK: SSP Baramulla

Srinagar, Feb 12: Contraband worth lakhs was seized in Uri sector of north Kashmir  on Sunday. The officials said that four drug peddlers were arrested stating that module is a part of the cross-border smuggling ring.
 SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure told Rising Kashmir that they have arrested 04 drug peddlers from the Uri sector in Baramulla and cash amount of Rs 25, 39,000 and 1.17Kgs of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered from their possession.
“As per the initial investigation, it was learnt that under a well-hatched conspiracy, Pakistan-based handlers are pushing drugs inside J&K through such smugglers to spread drug addiction among youth,” he said.
 SSP Baramulla, Amod said that they are investigating the matter and further investigation into the case is going on. "Pakistan angle is being probed and we are also investigating how they were getting directions from the handlers, he said.
The police identified four accused persons as Naseer Ahmad Bhatti son of Nazar Din Bhatti, Reyaz Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Sharief Khanday, Fayaz Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Sharief Khanday and Mohd Pazeer son of Abdul Majeed Khanday, all residents of Madiyan Kamalkote Uri.
 “All of them were arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” SSP said.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 12/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Uri and an investigation set into motion.
 A police spokesman said that based on specific information regarding the smuggling of narcotics in the area of Kamalkote Uri, a police party led by In-charge PP Kamalkote under the supervision of SDPO Uri Showkat Ali-JKPS established a special checkpoint at Sultan Daki Kali Mitti.
 “During naka checking, a vehicle (Tata Sumo) bearing registration No  JK05D-3680 with four persons on board was intercepted who tried to flee from the spot but was tactfully stopped by the alert police party,” he said.
