Veteran cricketer Gianeshwar Sharma's demise mourned by JKCA

Srinagar, July 03: Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is in a state of mourning following the passing of Gianeshwar Sharma, a highly esteemed cricketer, in Jammu during the intervening night of July 2nd and 3rd. The entire cricket fraternity in Jammu & Kashmir is deeply saddened by the loss of this legendary figure. As a tribute, a beautiful floral wreath was placed on behalf of JKCA, and condolence meetings were held at their offices in Jammu and Srinagar.
During the meetings, attendees fondly recalled Gianeshwar Sharma's immense contributions to cricket in Jammu & Kashmir. Prayers were offered to grant peace to his departed soul. Gianeshwar Sharma showcased his cricketing prowess in 15 first-class matches between 1965-66 and 1966-67 for Jammu & Kashmir. Not only was he a skilled player, but he was also admired for his gentlemanly qualities on and off the field. In the early 70s, he even represented Regional Engineering College, Srinagar, further cementing his legacy.
Gianeshwar Sharma's humility and grace were the hallmarks of his cricketing career, leaving an indelible impression on the cricket fraternity in Jammu & Kashmir. He generously shared his experiences and wisdom with fellow players, earning him popularity among his peers. He also served as a Manager and Coach for various age groups of JKCA teams.
His son, Anshuman Sharma, and elder brother, Ashutosh Sharma, have also made their mark in first-class cricket for JKCA, upholding the family's cricketing legacy. In the condolence meetings, a resolution was passed to express solidarity with the grieving family members and provide them with the strength to bear this immense loss.
The void left by Gianeshwar Sharma's demise will be deeply felt by the cricketing community of Jammu & Kashmir, as well as those who had the privilege of being associated with him or knew him personally. His name will forever be synonymous with cricketing excellence, humility, and grace.
