Valour Day celebrated at GC CRPF Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 10: In conformity with the cherished tradition of holding the sacrifice of Braveharts in reverence, the Valour Daywas celebrated at GC CRPF Srinagar by paying homage to the Bravehearts who laid down their lives in the alter of duty.
In a solemn ceremony, Ajay Kumar Yadav, IPS, Inspector General, CRPF, Srinagar first paid tribute to the Martyrs of the CRPF by laying a wreath at the “Shaheed Samark” of GC CRPF Srinagar. Later, he addressed the Sainik Sammelan and felicitated families of martyrs and DG’s Disc. recipients in an investiture ceremony during which R.K. Sharma, DIG Srinagar Sector, R.S.Rawat, DIG, Rajesh Kumar DIG GC Srinagar, Shri Jaidev Keshri, DIG North Srinagar, Dr. R.C.Bishariya, DIG(Medical) and other senior officers/jawans were present
Valour day is celebrated each year on 09th April to commemorate the saga of exemplary valour, unparalleled courage and phenomenal fortitude displayed by barely 02 companies of CRPF on 9th April 1965 at Saradar Post in Rann of Kuchh, Gujarat against a full-fledged brigade attack perpetrated by Pakistan Army. The Bravehearts not only repulsed the attack, but also inflicted heavy casualties on Pakistan Army, neutralising 34 Pakistani soldiers and capturing 04 alive. In this legendary battle 06 bravehearts of CRPF made supereme sacrifice at the altar of duty, leaving behind the trails of exceptional valour and exemplary courage for generations.
On this occasion, Essay writing and painting competition followed by volleyball match between GC CRPF Srinagar and Valley QAT and cultural programme were also organized. Winners of these competitions were felicitated by Shri Rajesh Kumar DIG, GC CRPF Srinagar. Other senior officers and a large number of CRPF personnel and family members residing inside the Campus remained present to witness these functions/programmes.
