Char -e- Sharief, Oct 21: The annual Urs of renowned Sufi saint, Islamic Preacher and poet Sheikh Noor-u Din-Noorani (RA) was observed with religious fervour and gaiety on Friday.
Thousands of devotees from different parts of Kashmir thronged at the saint’s shrine in historic Char -e -Sharief town of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
During the occasion, inner doors of the mausoleum were thrown open for devotees to have glimpse of the resting place (tomb) of the saint.
The devotees were seen reciting Darood and Naats.
Some were seen spreading toffies, almonds and walnuts over the saint’s tomb.
Special prayers were asked on the occasion for universal peace and prosperity.
Sheikh Noor Ud Din Noorani was born around 1377 in Kaimoh area of Kulgam district and left for heavenly abodes in 1440.
He is highly revered by people belonging to different faiths in Kashmir for reviving Reshiyat in Kashmir and spreading universal message of truth, peace and mutual brotherhood. He is remembered as Alamdar-e-Kashmir and Sheikh ul Alam by people in Kashmir.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem, a scholar of Reshiyat and Member J and K Waqf Board told that this day is observed to convey message of peace, love , brotherhood and self-less service to mankind.
“It is said that all men belong to the family of Allah and one who serves mankind serves Allah. This is the message this day sends across,” Dr Haleem said, adding that this day reminds all mankind that there is no scope for hatred in Reshiyat.
He described Sheikh Noor Ud Din as a prolific preacher, poet, leader, social reformer, philosopher, saint, traveller and saint.
“Through his multi dimensional personality he brought his followers near to Allah and his prophet,” he said, adding that poetic collection of Sheikh Noor Ud Din Noorani named as Kalam e Sheikh ul Alam reflects universal message of The Quran and for this reason it is regarded as Kashur Quran.
