Timber smuggler arrested after raid at house in Bandipora; 10 logs recovered

Bandipora, Jan 13: Police in this north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday apprehended a timber smuggler and seized a considerable amount of illicit forest timber from his possession. 
The police have stepped up efforts against smugglers after the people of the district expressed concern over the increase in timber smuggling cases. 
On Friday, police apprehended the timber smuggler from the Arin area of Bandipora. 
“Bandipora Police received specific information that one person namely Rayees Ahmad Khan from Khairpora Arin Bandipora has illegally procured forest timber in the courtyard of his house,” a police official told Rising Kashmir. 
He said a police team headed by SHO Police Station Bandipora and Incharge Police Post Sumlar carried out a raid at the given place and apprehended 10 logs of unlawfully obtained forest timber measuring 20 CuFt approximately from him. 
The implicated individual was arrested on the spot, the official said, adding that a case FIR No. 03/2023 under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been taken up.
“Our regular activities against malicious elements should guarantee the community members that we are doing everything to keep our society free of crime,” the official said. “Police have determined to initiate proceedings in accordance with the law against those who are involved in heinous and anti-social conduct.”
