Three houses, property worth lakhs destroyed in blaze

Baramulla, Jan 7: At least three residential houses were gutted in a massive fire incident in the Mir Sahib Mohalla Old town area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. The fire is believed to have emanated due to an electric short circuit and soon spread to nearby houses.
 
An official of the Fire and Emergency Services Department told Rising Kashmir that the fire erupted from a residential house which later on engulfed the nearby houses. However, due to speedy action from the department, the fire stopped spreading to other houses. 
 
Officials said that being a dense locality, it was a bit hectic for the teams to douse the flames. 
 
"We received a call at around 10:45 am about the fire incident. We rushed several teams of fire and emergency service department to the spot in order to douse the flames," he added. 
 
The official said that local youth also joined the rescue operation. 
 
Khursheed Ahmad, an official at Fire and Emergency Service department Baramulla said that three houses- one three storey house and two double storey houses gutted in the fire incident damaging property worth lakhs. 
 
He said that the fire emanated from the double storey house belonging to Ghulam Hassan Bhat son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat son of Majeed Bhat and Danish Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Majeed, damaging the roofing, ceiling and goods items completely. 
 
The official said that the fire later on engulfed the house of Abdul Qayoom Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat and Waseem Raja Beigh son Sonaullah Beige resulting in damage to the ceiling and goods. 
 
"The fire incident occurred due to an electric short circuit," the official further added. 
 
Meanwhile, locals urged the district administration as well as LG administration to help the victims of the fire incident. They said fire victims suffered heavy losses and needed immediate financial assistance.
 
Meanwhile the fire and emergency service department officials in Baramulla have appealed to the locals not to park their vehicles on road sides which creates hurdle to the rescue teams in such situations.
