Srinagar, July 28: National Conference (NC) vicepresident and former chief minister J&K, Omar Abdullah Thursday said that the hoisting of tricolor shouldn't be objected by anyone but subsequently added “it should not be imposed forcibly”.
He said this on the sidelines of the foundation and annual parent’s day function of J&K Rural Development Society held at the auditorium hall of the Dental College, Shireen Bagh, Srinagar here. Omar Abdullah said hoisting the tricolor under ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative is a welcome step and cannot be objected to. He, however added, “It should not be imposed forcefully on people”.
“Hoisting tricolor is a voluntary initiative. Any coercion in the initiative should be avoided,” Omar Abdullah said. He said neither people should be asked to hoist the country’s flag forcefully, nor should they be stopped from unfurling it with coercion. ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative started by the Government of India to encourage people to bring home the Tiranga and hoist it to celebrate the 75th year of India’s Independence.
Earlier, while speaking at the event, the NC Vice- President necessitated collaborative efforts to curb the menace of drug addiction in Kashmir.
“The burgeoning menace of drug addiction in Kashmir needs to be addressed seriously. It is high time for us to stand up and talk against it. It is not a one man’s task to take on this challenge. It is a gigantic work that calls for our collaborative efforts to be operated on multiple fronts,” Omar said. On climatic change, the former CM said it has become another topical issue that demands community action. “We are witnessing weather extremities. Let me tell you that saving the environment also starts with us.
As a vibrant organization, JKRDS can make a difference in this direction by educating people to make eco-friendly choices in their kitchens and other work spaces. I hope the organization will take up few causes and work with dedication to realize the anticipated goals. Having many goals makes it hard to achieve them. It is better to have few and remain focused,” he added.
