Tempdrops due to rainy spell, weather to improve from Tuesday: MeT

Srinagar, May 07:Moderate showers and hailstorms lashed Kashmir's plains, while higher reachesexperienced fresh snowfall for the third consecutive day on Sunday. The Meteorological Department predicts more precipitation in the Himalayan region on Monday.
The Meteorological Department officials said that some higher reaches in Kashmir including Z-Gali, Razdan top, Peer ki Gali, Sadhna Top and Zojila received fresh light snowfall. Meanwhile, after sunshine in the morning, intermittent rains continued in plains till late evening.
Continuous rains have resulted in cold weather in Kashmir. J&K has received 30-40 mm of rain in the last three days, with mountains receiving light snowfall.
Director MeT, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that brief spell of rain and along with thunderstorms at scattered places is expected on Monday towards late evening.
“There are also chances of thunderstorms at many places of J&K with hailstorm & gusty wind at one or two places,” he said adding that from Tuesday onward there will be significant improvement in weather till 12th May.
The MeT office also issued an advisory asking farmers and apple growers to postpone spraying of orchards and harvesting of crops till Monday.
Following the cloudy weather, in various parts of Kashmir on Sunday, Kashmir witnessed a drop in night temperatures, Srinagar recorded 20.9 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 6.5 °C as the minimum temperature.
Health resort Pahalgam in south Kashmir settled at 20.7 °C degrees and 5.2 °C as minimum temperatures. Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded minus 8.8°C as the maximum temperature and 0.4°C as the minimum temperature.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Sunday issued an avalanche warning over Baramulla district for next 24 hours.
The JKDMA spokesperson said that a ‘low’ danger level avalanche is likely to occur above 3000 metres above sea level over Baramulla district.
"People living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders", he said.
A traffic police department spokesman from the past 24 hours, Jammu-Srinagar highway remained blocked for more than 7 hours due to restoration work at Dalwas, closure of CN Tunnel, breakdown of 9HMV’s and movement of 10 nomadic flocks.
The spokesman said on Monday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, it said.
Similarly, on Srinagar-Leh highway, only one way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed on road. These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg, LMVs at 0630 hrs. to 0730 hrs followed by HMVs upto 0930 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing, he said.
