Social instability is a cause when suspicion is cast upon one’s personality, integrity, ego, faith, selflessness or anything that belongs to a person as an individual or that which links him to the larger pool of the society. This absence of trust leads towards destruction of life itself. In the modern age, nobody believes in each other whether it is due to selfishness or it is due to doubt of acting otherwise or due to lack of confidence among others. This type of ill sense makes society a breeding ground for collective ill will. Trust is the cord that holds two people together in relationship, and when it’s severed, disconnection occurs. When you can no longer be vulnerable with the other person, you begin to experience different things in your relationship.

Suspicion and doubt has internal dimensions also. Having full faith in one’s religion makes a man faithful and he always refuse the evils. If he doubts a little, it leads him towards the path where he ruins his inner ego and makes doubt rule his real life. Similarly, if one does not have faith in his relations, the entire institution of family disappears. Yes, it is in fact, in the modern competitive age that even blood relations acts in such a way that creates hatred in the hearts instead of love. This is hugely detrimental to the human society. If the beauty of human relation gets scared by the lashes of doubt, what remains of the human civilization? After all it is the relation between humans that sets us apart from other species on the face of this earth. Trust issues can often lead to problematic behavioral patterns in our life. It’s easy to suppress our emotional feelings by over-eating, drinking too much, or other addictive behaviors.

Mistrust, doubt, and suspicion denote an epistemic crisis of sorts, one in which appearances, assumptions and assertions are being interrogated. With  regards to  doubt,  philosophers have often  employed  this  feature  in  their  metaphysical  contemplations. Understanding why people distrust others is pivotal, because distrust can hinder social exchange, thereby undermining a central component of an effective society. Individuals possess enduring tendencies to be distrustful of others, with fundamental ramifications for the way they approach a variety of social relationships, especially those social relationships in which relevant information about one’s interaction partner is lacking. An individual’s disposition to distrust others creates a strong default value influencing how that individual will approach interpersonal interactions.

Mistrust can spread through a relationship like a wildfire. What starts as a small ember of doubt can mushroom into a full-on blaze of distrust if we don’t take steps to address it early. The best way to prevent distrust from taking root is to proactively focus on building trust. Trust must be continually developed and nurtured throughout the course of a relationship, not just when it’s been damaged. Mistrust may arise due to differences in group membership: individuals identify and are positively attached to their in-groups, yet assign negative stereotypes to out-group members and may view them with suspicion and hostility. Mistrust can also arise directly as the result of personal experiences among individuals, such as when one person breaks a promise to another.

If a child turns suspicious towards his parents, if parents become doubtful towards their children, if spouses don’t trust each other, if siblings suspect each other – can one imagine a workable and functional human society. Doubt turns everything dark. Right path, right talk, right behavior, and a right human personality –everything vanishes in a society that is ruled by mistrust and doubt. Many nations in the ancient ages vanished because of this. Thus in order to develop a society that works for betterment, care should be taken that suspicion and mistrust doesn’t sneak in.
