Srinagar, Mar 04: The extended closure of educational institutions across Kashmir has severely affected students' academics. Students are unable to attend online classes or access study material due to poor internet connectivity. In several parts of Kashmir, mobile internet services have either been suspended or restricted to 2G speed as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the Valley. Zahoor Ahmad, a student, said that the extension of school and college closures across the Kashmir Valley has disrupted the academic calendar. "Students studying in schools and colleges are unable to attend classes due to the closure of educational institutions. They also cannot join online classes or access study material," he said. Ahmad added that the continued closure of institutions after the winter vacation break, along with the internet shutdown, has directly impacted students' academic progress in the Valley. Firdous Ahmad, a parent, said, "I have two young children studying in Classes 5 and 3 in a government school. Since December 2025, they have not attended classes. We do not have adequate facilities at home to continue their studies during this period." Javed Ahmad, an unemployed youth, said that students pursuing higher education and preparing for government and competitive examinations are unable to access study material due to the mobile internet shutdown. "If everyone could afford Jio Fiber and other Wi-Fi services, people would not raise objections regarding mobile internet services," he said. He further added that many people are working from home and many students rely on online learning. If mobile internet services continue to remain shut, many individuals working from home may lose their source of income.
