Students bring laurel to DPS Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 21: Delhi Public School (DPS), Srinagar congratulated the students for bringing laurels to the school by claiming six medals in U-15 badminton tournament recently held here at G.D Goenka Public School.

The six participating students from DPS Srinagar bagged six medals for the school—one silver and five gold.
Mujtaba Ashaq and Khalid Khursheed of DPS Srinagar won gold each in boy’s double category, while Salman Khurshid won gold in the boy’s singles.

Similarly, while keeping up with their male counterparts, the femalel students from the school won three medals as well, wherein Hyah Anis and Ishreen Kour won the gold and Khansa Showkat won the silver medal.
While congratulating the students for bringing laurels to the school, Vijay Dhar, Vice-chairman Delhi Public School, Srinagar, said “At DPS it has always been our motive to encourage the students to excel in the extracurricular activities. Only a sound body can hold a sound mind. The feats acquired by our students in the U-15 Badminton tournament in Srinagar highlight our commitment towards that goal.”
Dhar also added that while all the schools remained closed for the past two years, his institution has attempted to engage students in all sorts of activities to keep them in touch with learning and prevent the pandemic gloom from touching their lives.
Furthermore, Shafak Afshan, Principal DPS Srinagar said that while the school was closed for the past two years they constructed an indoor stadium of international standards at the school campus and once the classes resume, their students would be able to perform better in the future competitions and tournaments.
“We want to train and produce athletes that can compete at an international level and earn accolades for both the country and their school,” the Principal added.
Shafak also hoped that other schools would follow the example set by her institution and provide infrastructure and training to the students. She said that youth in Jammu and Kashmir have immense talent and it needs to be harnassed.
While speaking with Rising Kashmir, one of the medallists, Hyah Anis, said she hopes to play at the National level and is planning on receiving further training from the coaches at the school.  
“My happiness has no bounds for securing the medal; I am grateful to my coach Mudasir Bashir for training me and I hope that in the future I would be able to play at national and international level,” Anis added.
