Budgam, Dec 10: In order to boost morale and felicitate the captain of the National Women Wheelchair Basketball team, SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem received Insha Bashir at Srinagar International Airport after attending the award ceremony in New Delhi.
Ms Insha Bashir hails from the Beerwah area of district Budgam and is a female international wheelchair basketball player who represented India in the United States of America in March 2019. Recently, for the first time ever an International Wheelchair Basketball tournament was held in India and won a Silver Medal. She was conferred with the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment) on 3rd December 2022 by the President of India.
On the arrival of Ms Insha Bashir, SSP Budgam presented a bouquet to her and appreciated her efforts to be a role model by overcoming her physical speciality, sitting in a wheelchair and making this wheelchair as wings to chase her dreams. “She has not only set an example for generations to come but become a role model for everyone,” the SSP said, adding that sports is an important part of personality development and Insha's dedication and achievements will encourage youth, especially girls to excel in every field despite any odds in their lives.
Besides her various achievements in the field of basketball, she has also co-authored a book, titled “101 Unconventional Strategies”.
