Srinagar, Apr 24: The traffic police in Srinagar have identified around 200 instances of bike stunts being performed on the city's roads. According to the police, parental negligence is to blame for the rise in these dangerous activities. In response, the police have launched a major crackdown against stunt bikers and plan to bring them in for counseling. Repeat offenders will be dealt with strictly.
SSP Traffic City Muzaffar Shah spoke to Rising Kashmir and explained that parents are purchasing expensive bikes and vehicles for their children without considering their safety. He argued that minors cannot afford bikes worth lakhs of rupees and it is the parents who are providing them with these vehicles. The police have already identified 50 bikers, whose parents were called in for counseling, but this approach has not resolved the issue.
The police believe that parental support is essential in curbing the number of stunts on Srinagar's roads. However, the bikers themselves have reportedly not responded positively to counseling sessions. As a result, the police are preparing to take more severe measures. They will continue to crack down on stunt riding and are exploring the possibility of prosecuting the parents of minors performing stunts.
Several accidents have occurred in Srinagar recently, some of which have resulted in the loss of young lives. The city has witnessed the highest number of accidents in the region, with a majority of them involving bikers.
The senior traffic cop said they have identified 200 stunt bikers, but due to the auspicious occasion of Eid, they have not yet been called in for counseling. However, they will be asked to report to the police station within the next two days.
The police urge parents to cooperate with them in preventing bike stunts for the safety of young people. They also remind parents that purchasing expensive vehicles for their children without considering their safety is a form of parental negligence.
