Srinagar, May 01: Expressing resentment against the Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LC&MA), cityresidents said that they are facing severe problems while availing online NoCs from the department.
A group of residents from the Dal Gate area told Rising Kashmir that they are facing issues while obtaining online NoCs and building permissions from the department. The group suggested that the department initiate an online process for building permits. However, they stated that there is no benefit to the online service, as people still have to attend different offices physically to know the status of their applications.
Shakir Ahmad Bhat, a native of Dalgate, stated that he applied for an NOC a month ago, and despite more than one month passing, there has been no headway. Ahmad said he is regularly visiting the LC&MA office, but they are saying that their town planning officer is not available.
After the online process for building permissions to be stepped up, people in Srinagar had hoped that there would be major relief for residents across the city. "When online services were started, we were told that there would be no human intervention, but there is no sign of relief for the common people," Bhat added.
An official from the department, on the condition of anonymity, admitted the delay in the issuance of NoCs from the department. The official stated that this is all happening because the senior official's post is vacant in the department, and the officials have not filled the post so far, nor have they given charge to anyone, resulting in common people suffering.
The officer continued that due to the delay in the issuance of NoCs and building permits, there has been a rise in illegal construction in the city.
The residents have demanded that the issuance of NoCs and building permits be expedited.
