Srinagar police arrests two persons

Deceased was mentally, physically harassed by duo on account of some financial dealings: Srinagar Police

 Srinagar, July 22: After the top authorities at Divisional Administration Kashmir on Wednesday asked the Srinagar police to probe all angles leading to the death of 34 year old Srinagar based car dealer, Srinagar police on Friday arrested two persons in connection with the death of Shameem Ali.
 
Police said that during the inquest proceedings, it came to fore that the deceased was mentally and physically harassed by two middle-aged individuals namely Ashiq Wani son of Ghulam Wani of Chatabal, Srinagar, and Fayaz Ahmad Mewaforash son of Abdul Aziz Mewaforash from Sarnal, Anantnag on account of some financial dealings between the deceased and the duo.
 
Police in a handout issued said that Shameem Ali Nath son of Ali Muhammad Nath resident of Veir area Chatabal Srinagar was missing since 5 July. His dead body was later on recovered from the Sangam area of Srinagar on 19 July this month. Subsequently, inquest proceedings under section 174 of CRPC were initiated in PS Sangam. The post-mortem of the deceased was conducted by a team of doctors and after medico-legal formalities, the dead body of the deceased was handed over to NOK’s for last rites.
 
“Pertinent to mention here that both the accused had illegally locked the residential house of the deceased situated at Vier area Chatabal on account of some debt that he owed them, on 5 July, the date when the deceased went missing. (The house and lock has been opened as soon as information was received by safakadal Police Station”, police said in a statement.
Pertinently, the deceased’s family members have alleged that their deceased son was mentally and physically tortured by an individual and his other associates over a period of time as their son owed him money.
Following the allegations and grievance by the deceased’s family, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole on Wednesday asked Srinagar Police to probe the allegations of the Chatabal Srinagar family.
“The grievance of the family was received and accordingly Srinagar Police has been asked to probe the matter from all angles to verify the allegations of the deceased family”, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir had said.
Meanwhile, Police on Friday further said that on the basis of available oral and technical evidence, the inquest proceedings were converted into a formal case under FIR number 137/2022 under sections 306,452,427 and 506 of IPC P/S Safakadal.
“Both the accused Ashiq Wani and Fayaz Ahmad have been arrested. A SIT headed by SDPO MR Gunj, Muhammad Farooq Bhat has been formed for in-depth investigation of this case”, police stated in a statement.
Srinagar Police said that the Post mortem report and some FSL reports are awaited and other sections like murder, destruction of evidence, and other relevant sections will be added to the case based on the findings of the Post mortem report.
Police said that it assures the citizens that no crime shall go undetected and all modern means of investigation will be utilized to unearth such crimes.
