Sports for All: Youth engage in thrilling sports activities across Kashmir

Srinagar, May 26 - The Department of Youth Services & Sports in Jammu and Kashmir is making strides in promoting sports and outdoor activities across the region. Under the banner of G-20 and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, various sports events were organized for tribal people in different zones of District Budgam, including Magam, Khansahib, Hardpanzoo, and Charari-sharief.
At Khansahib Sports Zone, boys and girls from tribal communities showcased their skills in competitions held in different disciplines at Rayir Beeru. Similar events took place at Magam Sports Zone, where tribal players participated in Tug of War, carrom, and chess competitions. Hardpanzoo Sports Zone witnessed competitions in Tug of War, Kabaddi, Badminton, carrom, chess, and Hopscotch, while Charari-sharief organized tournaments in tug of war, volleyball, Kabaddi, carrom, and chess.
These sports activities are being conducted as per the directions of the Joint Director of Youth Services & Sports Kashmir, Waseem Raja. Balbir Singh, DYSSO Budgam, praised the field staff for their efforts in engaging hundreds of people from tribal communities in various games and sports.
In District Bandipora, the Department organized a captivating Nature Walk exclusively for girls. Despite intermittent rains, around 80 enthusiastic students embarked on a journey through the mesmerizing Chaternaar Forest Division. The Nature Walk aimed to foster an appreciation for nature among the young girls while providing an opportunity to connect with the breathtaking natural surroundings.
The Nature Walk was flagged off by Gh Mohidin Dar, ZPEO Bandipora, who stressed the importance of such initiatives in nurturing a deep connection between youth and their environment. The event received an overwhelming response and active participation from the students, highlighting the Department's commitment to the holistic development of youth and environmental preservation.
Moving to Baramulla District, the Department organized various sports events as part of its annual calendar. Zone Dangarpora witnessed an inter-school Cross Country Run, with over 200 students participating. Zone Pattan organized an Annual Road Race for girls under the U14 & 17 categories, and Zone Sopore conducted a Cross Country Run for boys under the U14 & 17 categories. These events aimed to discover and nurture hidden talents while promoting physical and mental well-being among students.
In South Kashmir districts, thousands of students participated in Padyatras organized by YSS Pulwama, Shopian, and Kulgam. The Padyatras aimed to disseminate information about the G-20 presidency. Additionally, a Walkathon 2023 with the theme of G-20 Awareness was organized in Pampore, which saw more than 475 students participating. These initiatives promote a positive sports culture among the youth and create awareness about important global events.
The Department of Youth Services & Sports remains committed to providing platforms for the holistic development of the youth. These events not only promote physical fitness but also encourage teamwork, discipline, and a spirit of healthy competition. By engaging youth in sports and outdoor activities, the Department aims to nurture their potential and build a brighter future.
