This year's theme by World Health Organization is "Commit to Quit" that envisage a strong message to people to make a commitment on completely abstaining from smoking tobbaco in any form, more so during the current Covid-19 pandemic, as COVID predominantly affects the lungs and smoking too damages the lungs.

The World Health Organisation released a scientific brief earlier this year showing that smokers are at higher risk of developing severe disease and death from COVID-19, and worldwide research also suggests that there is a higher incidence of severe lung complications following COVID in smokers as compared to non-smokers.

Smoking Tobbaco is the crucial cause of diseases of almost every organ system of the human body most common being lung cancers, stroke and heart diseases. We could see rising incidence of such medical conditions nowadays--one of the prominent risk factor being smoking tobacco.

Chewing tobacco use is also a risk factor for the development of oral cancers , gum disease, tooth decay and tooth loss, and have possible links to other cancers as well.

People should completely abstain from smoking tobacco to ensure their health and safety. There is also a need to held more awareness public campaigns to sensitize the society towards the ill effects of smoking tobacco on human body and the ways for its prevention.
