SMC Commissioner welcomes first batch of Amarnath pilgrims in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 29: The first batch of Amarnath Yatris arrived Wednesday at Pantha chowk base camp here after two years of a gap because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The devotees were welcomed by the City Mayor, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, SMC Commissioner, DIG Police Central Kashmir, CRPF, and other civil officers. The Yatris were given a warm welcome by the officers.
According to officials, " the first batch of Yatris were welcomed by City Mayor Junaid Mattu, SMC Commissioner Athar Amir Khan, DC Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad, DIG Police central Kashmir Sujit Kumar and CRPF, PRI, ULB representatives, senior officers from the Administration and prominent citizens, received and welcomed the first batch of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatris on their arrival in Srinagar."
SMC Commissioner while greeting the Yatris said "We have to extend our hospitality and ensure a smooth and accomplished journey with every single arrangement to be looked after for the convenience of devotees."
The 43 days Amarnath Yatra begins on Wednesday amid tight security and, more than six lakh Yatris are expected to visit this holy shrine this year. The Amarnath yatra has not occurred in the past two years, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Mattu on the occasion while interacting with devotees wished them a safe and spiritually fulfilling Yatra and said that all arrangements had been put in place to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the annual Yatra.
The Yatra to Shri Amarnath Cave of Lord Shiva, located in the upper reaches of the Himalayas, started today from the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal. While in Srinagar a Yatra Transit camp en route yatra has been established at Panthachowk by the District Administration Srinagar for the convenience of Yatries as a temporary halt station.
At the Yatra Transit Camp Panthachowk, this year all necessary arrangements have been made for the convenience of the Amarnath Yatries including boarding, healthcare, sanitation, langer, communication, traffic, parking, e-KYC/RFID registration facilities.
