Jammu, June 05: The Central government has given a one-year extension for the completion of the Smart City projects as only 36 out of which 70 works in Jammu have been completed so far. The extension has also been given to Srinagar city.
The work on the remaining 34 projects is going on and 25 out of these would be completed by December this year, General Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), Ashish Anand, told Rising Kashmir, adding that the remaining work on nine projects would be completed before March 2024.
An amount of Rs 940 crores has been earmarked for these projects in Jammu, out of which Rs 500 crores have been spent so far, Anand said, adding that the Central government has given an extension of one year to complete both Jammu and Srinagar smart cities.
The Smart City Project was announced in 2017 but the actual ground was started in 2020-21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some of the important projects completed under the Smart City so far include the Intelligent Traffic System (ITMS) under which 650 high-resolution cameras have been put in place across Jammu, Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC), modernisation of Narwal Mandi, widening of road from KC Chowk to Dogra Chowk and modernisation of Fire & Emergency Stations, the JSCL GM said.
Among the important projects on which the work is going on include the Tawi River Front, widening of Talab Tillo and Canal Road, beautification of Bahu Fort areas and Apsra Road improvement, he added.
Ashish further said that the e-buses project is also most likely to be completed by October this year. A hundred e-buses each will be plying on the roads of Jammu and Srinagar under the Smart City project. The work for the installation of digital plates to each house, shop and mall is going on and is most likely to be completed by or before October, he said.
