SERB-DST sponsored workshop on drought management concludes at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, July 19: The ten-day SERB-DST sponsored workshop on "Drought Management for Horticulture Crops in the Ecologically Fragile Landscape of North Western Himalayas" concluded at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K).
Organized by the Division of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Horticulture SKUAST-K, the event saw enthusiastic participation from researchers and scholars from various parts of the country. The valedictory ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Nilofar Banday, Dean of the Faculty of Horticulture SKUAST-K.
The workshop aimed to create a platform for scientists and scholars to interact and share knowledge on diverse aspects, including the impact of climate change on the increasing frequency of drought stress, its effects on crop growth and development, and the management practices developed so far to combat drought adversities.
Dr. Zaffar Mahdi Dar, the organizer of the event, stressed the need to intensify research in less explored areas due to the drastic effects of climate change and the growing population's food demands.
In her address, Prof. Nilofar Banday encouraged participants to identify research gaps and work towards mitigating drought stress in crops. Prof. Imtiyaz Murtaza, the Head of the Division of Basic Sciences and Humanities, shed light on recent advances in drought mitigation strategies worldwide, outlining the challenges and opportunities in the field.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks and the distribution of certificates among the participants, fostering the spirit of collaboration and knowledge-sharing to combat the challenges of drought management in the ecologically sensitive North Western Himalayan region.
