Srinagar, Mar 27: In the ongoing Prof. Yousuf Memorial Cricket Tournament, host Islamia College defeated Government Degree College Magam by 59 runs here on Saturday and booked their place in the semifinals.

 

GDC Magam won the toss and decided to field first. Hosts put a good show with the bat scoring 223 runs in the allotted 30 overs. Naveed with 89 in 83 balls and Wamiq with 50 in 28 balls were the prominent run-getters for Islamia College. Muzamil and Shahid Ali took 3 wickets each for the Magam College.

Chasing a stiff target of 224 runs Magam team tried very hard but managed to score 164 runs only in 26.3 overs. Umar Khaliq scored 48 and Shahid Ali scored 20 runs for their team. Faizan took 3 and Naveed took 2 wickets for the host team.

The next match of the tournament is scheduled on Sunday in which Gandhi Memorial College will lock horns with GDC Handwara.

The tournament is being organized by the Department of Physical Education, Islamia College of Science & Commerce, Srinagar in the memory of its ex-Principal late Prof. Mohammed Yousuf.
