Srinagar, Mar 28: Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar cruised into the quarter-finals with a comprehensive 90 run win over Government Degree College Handwara in the ongoing Prof. Yousuf Memorial Cricket Tournament.

After winning the toss, Gandhi College opted to bat first and the team took full advantage of the average bowling and fielding of the Handwara team. Gandhi College batsmen piled up a huge score of 254 runs for 4 wickets. Musavir Majid with 93 runs in 70 balls and Ashiq Bashir 71 in 35 balls were the main architects of Gandhi College innings. Najma Zuha, Amir Nazir and Aqib Nazir had one consolation wicket each for Handwara team.

Chasing a mammoth target of 255 runs, the Handwara College managed to score 163 runs only in 22.2 overs. Iqbal Shafi with 31 runs was the main run-getter for them.

For Gandhi College,  Asif Jheelani took 4 wickets and Sameer and Owais took 2 wickets each. Musavir of Gandhi College was adjudged the man of the match.

The tournament is being organized by the Department of Physical Education, Islamia College of Science & Commerce, Srinagar in the memory of its ex-Principal late Prof. Mohammed Yousuf.
