Plant Chinars to keep the legacy alive: DC Pulwama

Pulwama, March 15: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary while kick-starting the Chinar plantation drive on Wednesday said it is aimed to enhance the green cover in the district and to create an eco-friendly environment.
Planting Chinar saplings at GDC Boys Pulwama, here, which was organized by the district’s Floriculture Department, the DC said that being the heritage tree, around 250 Chinars shall be planted during the drive.
He advised the students to participate in the drive across to keep the legacy of Chinar trees alive forever. “Planting new Chinar trees in the district will further enhance the scenic beauty and environment, and would also become a reason to attract more tourists and local visitors, at the same time uplifting the socio-economic condition of the local population,” Choudhary said.
Highlighting the importance of Chinar trees, he stressed the involvement of every section of the society in Chinar plantations and called for involvement in their conservation. “Choosing the Degree College for the plantation drive will inculcate the love for trees among the students who shall carry it forward to the next generations,” he said.
Principal GDC Pulwama and students also planted Chinar trees in the college. Many students spoke about the importance of the Chinar trees and pledged to plant many more. Principal GDC Boys Pulwama, District Floriculture Officer, Students, officers and officials from many other departments were present on the occasion. The DC also planted Chinar trees in the DC Office Complex and Public Park Pulwama.
