Srinagar, March 28: The School Education Department has made more than forty thousand new enrollments in various government schools of Kashmir valley.
Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK),  Dr. Tasaduq Hussain said that as per the online system, till now, the school education department has made 40,358 new enrollments.
“The real enrollment is happening. If a dropout student will again take admission in our school, the online system won’t show any update as we have already uploaded the names of all the students there. Even if the students are promoted to another class, it won’t show any update. With this online system, only new enrollment will be registered,” he said.
He further said that for dropout students, the department has received good response. “We have been working hard on it and we were on it from the month of November last year. We will admit those students in age-appropriate classes,” he said.
He informed that 8000 students from private schools have come to government schools and the heads of government run institutions have been directed to admit the student regardless of the discharge certificate.
“Fee should not be the criteria for the students for not getting the discharge certificate from the school. Schools should give an option of easy installments to parents so that they can pay the fees as per their capabilities. We don’t want children to suffer because of the discharge certificate. We have directed all the heads of institutions to take the students irrespective of whether he gets the discharge certificate from their schools or not,” he added.
Regarding overpricing of books and stationery items, the director said that the action will be taken against the violators. “Whenever we get the specific information, we will take action. All Chief Education Officers and Zonal Education Officers have been directed to investigate the matter.”
Last year in September, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) had issued a notification that the books prescribed by the JKBOSE will be taught in all the schools from class 6th onwards. Giving reference to the notification, he further said that with the new chairman of BOSE, this will gain momentum and the department will be acting tough with regard to overpricing of the textbooks and stationery items.
Considering the quality of board books, he said that the department has to look after the budget as well. “This issue of quality of matter of the books has been taken up with the higher authorities and we will look into it,” he said.
