One-way traffic restored on Sgr-Jmu highway

•      Avalanche warning issued for 8 districts in JK

Srinagar, Jan 22: Authorities on Sunday restored one-way vehicular traffic on the 270 kilometers Srinagar-Jammu highway, which was blocked due to road damage near Dawal bridge in Udhampur district, officials said.
SSP Ramban and SSP Traffic NHW, Mohita Sharma said traffic was restored at Dawal bridge after a portion of the road was damaged on Sunday morning. The traffic was disrupted for several hours and urged people to travel with caution on the highway, she said.
On Monday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs, Passengers, and Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides of the highway, SSP said.
The highway is the vital road that connects the Union Territory with the rest of the country. All essential supplies and vehicles pass through the highway.
Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir Disaster Management Authority on Sunday has issued an avalanche warning for at least eight districts for next 24 hours.
An official of the JKDMA said medium danger level avalanche is likely in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, Bandipora& Kupwara districts & low danger level avalanches likely in Baramulla &Ganderbal districts in next 24 hours.
“People advised to take precautions & avoid these areas,” he said.
Director MeT Sonam Lotus said on Monday they were expecting generally cloudy with light Snow, rain over scattered places of J&K.
“The ongoing wet spell will continue on Wednesday and thereafter we are expecting improvement in prevailing weather conditions from 26 January onward,” he said.
“From 24-25th January, we are expecting moderate snowfall over the middle and higher reaches. Overall, weather is likely to remain erratic with cloudy, intermittent rain, snow till 29th January in the whole of J &K, he said.
