Srinagar, June 13: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti Monday alleged that suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s blasphemous statement against the Prophet of Islam was not coincidental but “well-planned”.
She said the derogatory remarks were aimed at “provoking” Muslims to pave way for bulldozing their properties.
Mehbooba was addressing media persons at party headquarters here in Srinagar. She said India is “no more” known for its democracy.
Mehbooba asked why Nupur Sharma is not being arrested for her statement? Her remarks have severely hurt the sentiments of Muslims across the globe.
She slammed BJP over the Enforcement Directorate’s summon to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case, saying “The BJP uses ED like institutions as their tool to silence the dissent.”
“From last many years, ED, NIA and other investigative agencies have been misused by BJP as they are treating them as an alliance party which is running in the direction of the central government,” the PDP chief said.
She added, “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has always been at forefront of raising issues of common people and summoning him is aimed to muzzle his voice. This is a witch hunt”.
On killing of militants in Kashmir, the PDP chief said youth in the valley know if they will pick up arms they will get killed.
