Srinagar, July 11: The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, on Tuesday dismissed rumours of any shortage of essential commodities, including petrol, in the Valley and said that the Srinagar-Jammu highway will be reopened for traffic movement on Wednesday.
"We have adequate stock available in the Valley. Some people are spreading rumours and creating panic. The highway has been closed for the past few days due to landslides, but it will be cleared and reopened hopefully tomorrow," he told Rising Kashmir.
He assured that the supply of essentials will be restored once the highway is operational.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of vehicles queued up at various fuel stations across the Valley, following rumours of a fuel crisis in the country. The rumours were triggered by social media posts showing long lines of vehicles at gas stations and crowds of people waiting to get their tanks refilled.
The rush for fuel also caused traffic jams in some parts of Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir.
