Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday appointed Zafar Iqbal Manhas, a well known writer and member of Legislative Council as the vice president of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Cultural and Languages.
Official sources told Rising Kashmir that the nomination for the post was approved by Chief Minister who is also the president of the Academy in view of a decision taken by the general council in last December. This is after 36 years the Academy has got a vice president.
Manhas is currently serving as Member, J&K Legislative Council and is also on the General Council and Central Committee of the Academy. A former Secretary of the Academy, Manhas has served the State in several important positions including Secretary, State Autonomy Committee, Member, Autonomy Committee and Secretary, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People.
