Was it HM who misled the parliament or civil servants who misled the minister on my house arrest: Soz

Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Former Union Minister has issued the following statement to the press, Saturday

Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader on Saturday questioned is it the Home Minister Amit Shah who misled the parliament or was it the civil servants that misled the minister to make a wrong statement in the parliament that nobody was under arrest in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Home Minister Amit Shah tabled information in the Parliament the other day that nobody was under house arrest in JK UT,” Soz said, adding, that, “The fact is that I have been under house arrest since August 5, 2019, the day when Article 370 of the Constitution of India was abrogated.”

Soz said that there are many more from the mainstream political parties in Kashmir who have been under house arrest since then.

“During all this period, I visited Delhi for two days for medical advice. I had visited my ailing sister in Srinagar twice with permission of the J&K Police, who took me from my residence in their vehicle with the escort and got me back to my residence,” he said, adding, “That I am a free man, is a white lie.”

Soz said that it shows the present-day dispensation at the Centre has no respect for the Constitution of India, which enshrines the provision for the protection of Civil Liberties in India.

“The most tragic aspect of the incarceration of the political class in Kashmir is that the police personnel at the lowest rung have only to follow verbal instructions of the bosses all the time. The word of mouth reigns the roost,” he said.
