Inhabitants of the frontier district Kupwara Sunday expressed resentment against Power Department Development (PDD) for unscheduled power cuts and demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
The residents said that not only non-metered areas, but residents in metered localities are also bearing the brunt and spending most of their time without power supply.
Locals of the area complained that PDD has resorted to long and unscheduled power cuts.
“The PDD Department doesn't adhere to the schedule, they make frequent curtailments due to which inhabitants are facing immense problems,” said a group of people from Kupwara town.
“Although our area is metered, PDD curtails our electricity for hours. Our area faced several unscheduled power cuts. If power is not provided to us as per the schedule we will protest on the streets,” they added.
The situation in the rural areas is worsening due to the unscheduled power cuts as most of the villages and townships don’t get electricity for days.
Irked by the frequent power cuts, the people have started taking to streets to protest against the PDD.
The situation in non-metered and remote villages of Kupwara, Langate, Handwara, Kralpora,Trehgam, Hayhama and Lolab is no different.
Many remote villages, including Badkoot, Rajpora, Kalmoona, Hafrada, Rangward, Marseri and Budnambal are facing severe power shortage.
